I’m Amy Masters, and I am writing to introduce myself to you as I am running for the Ward 8 School Committee seat in 2017. The election is at-large, and the seat will be open as the incumbent is in her final term.

Thirty percent of Newton voters cast early votes.

From Newton City Clerk David Olson:

The grand total for Early Voters in Newton was 17,775 over the course of two weeks.  The busiest day over the course of the two weeks was yesterday (Friday) when we had just under 2,000 voters show up at Newton City Hall.  Polls closed at 5 p.m. and the line stretched out the building towards Commonwealth Avenue.  It took us another half hour to get everyone through the polls.

Reminder: Highland Ave. bridge over I-95 will be closed this weekend

This will be a great weekend to stay in Newton.

Starting tonight at 8 p.m. (Friday Nov. 4) Highland Ave. over Route I-95 will be closed to all traffic in order to allow for the demolition of the old bridge crossing over the interstate. Traffic on I-95 will be detoured over the on-off ramps at Highland, which is why Highland has to be closed this weekend only but stores and restaurants will remain open.

The developer has a preference – and councilors appeared to have one, too – but Damien Chaviano of Mark Investment Inc. said his firm would be happy to build either.
