Newton Parks Commissioner Bob DeRubeis to retire
Bob DeRubeis, Newton Parks, Recreation and Culture commissioner, will retire when he turns 65 next February, Newton Patch reports. He has worked for the city for 32 years....Last chance to see some great public art!
Stella and I are going to miss the free outdoor sculpture exhibit along the Newton Upper Falls Greenway. The greenway is a nice piece of Newton; the artwork makes it even better. It’s only up until Sunday.Gath Pool reopened!

A new look for Crystal Lake’s Levingston Cove
The Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a community meeting at the Newton Free Library on Weds. May 30 at 7 p.m. to discuss potential designs for renovating the park at Levingston Cove at Crystal Lake. When looking through the collaborative zoning map recently I was struck by a comment in my neighborhood. Someone had suggested turning a stretch of Albermarle Rd., which has no driveways, into parkland. It made complete sense since the one-block road is unnecessary. In fact, a few years ago the city made the left-hand turn there illegal because people were using it as a way to avoid a traffic light.
