Leary to run at large in November

Ward 1 City Councilor Alison Leary will be running for the Ward 1 At Large Seat this fall, according to her website.  

This switch is, no doubt, motivated by the fact that Council President Scott Lennon is giving up his Ward 1 At Large seat to run for mayor and perhaps the possibility that ward seats could eventually be eliminated through charter reform.

    We will miss Scott’s leadership in troubling times. The big question is whether the prevailing voting constituency can adjust and mobilize into austerity from the ‘tax & spend’ mindset. Leaf blowers & sanctuary alienation is not a positive indicator of big picture relief. Unenrolled independents are the brain trust for the future.

    This is great news! Alison’s energy and thoughtfulness have been such an asset for Newton. She has brought terrific leadership to the City Council.
