Oh, I think this clip says it pretty well:

Trying to imagine the chief’s office brought to mind that time Princess Diana said “there were three of us in the marriage, so it was a bit crowded.”
Newton is never boring.
This is actually very sad as one can only imagine how much of our Taxpayer dollars are going to these lawsuits. What is the Mayor doing?? Between this and once HUD files suit against him for Engine 6 our city is going to be spending alot of money defending this Mayors actions. In the over 40 years I have lived in Newton I have never seen anything like this.
Joanne, it’s because people use the courts to decide things after things have been decided. That’s just how it is these days.
If the City loses all these lawsuits, will they have to go to the tax payer’s again for an override to pay them. My vote will be NO. Who ever is advising this mayor, they should be gone.
Pasqual’s question I believe involves questions about the City’s insurance coverage for legal matters and settlements. It would be helpful if someone has that background to let us know the deductibles and limits, as well as our budgeting philosophy — do we budget for maximum annual exposure? Anyone?
Pasqual’s other question was about the mayor’s advisers. Unfortunately, the ones that are left are the ones that tell him what he wants to hear. I don’t think the problem is with the advisers.
As a woman of a certain age who fought for women to be treated as equals and with respect in the workplace, I’m disappointed with the decision of this arbitrator (a man).
I’m certainly not indicting all men, but this behavior is not a joke – it’s completely unacceptable at the local, state, and national level. It’s time for men who don’t understand that to figure it out.
Jane misunderstands the arbitrator’s decision (Call the Law Department to ask that a copy be posted here and on the Tab Blog.) He found that most of the accuser’s charges were lies and those that weren’t were exagerations. She had a vendetta against the Chief and carried it out against him when she was accused of outright theft, not just the overtime abuses that he had cracked down on her for. The arbitrator did what Mr. Mitnick should have done and found that the Chief didn’t use sexist language in the office while his accuser and at least one of her friends were extremely foul mouthed. (The accuser even admitted that he never said any such things except on the two instances she charged.) The Mayor believed the harebrained findings of the investigator even the one directly denied by the Watertown Police Chief. The Arbitrator saw through the lies.

All the above is of course my my “opinion as a “woman of a certain age” Czll the Solicitor’s office for a copy of the Arbitrator’s report and make up your own mind.

Jackie – We merely see the situation differently.
Jane-I agree women in the workplace should be treated as equal, so when a woman in the workplace (Ms. Mooney) uses foul and disrespectful language (which she has admitted herself), and yet there is no evidence of foul language used by the male in her workplace-shouldn’t she herself be fired? That would be equal treatment.
