I’ve posted this two hours ago and still no comment from Terry Malloy?
The guy’s slipping.
Who is organizing the next blog party?
Forgive me, the humidity has encouraged earlier and earlier drinking, making it hard to use a keyboard.
Hoopsters sounds like a great idea. There was something like it a few years ago on Eliot st near rt 9.
Home-brewing can be messy and smelly so a place to do it is a relief to many marriages and could be fun as a group activity. A couple of years ago some friends and I made a Velvet Stout that was the best beer I’ve ever had.
As long as they don’t move in on the white lightning still we’ve got cooking in the Aqueduct…
As I live in the neighborhood- and I love beer (responsibly of course) – I am looking forward to Hopsters opening. I will definitely give it a whirl, and once I do I will report here.
One note about alcohol and liquor licensing: the previous establishment (Prana Cafe) had a license to serve alcohol, but it did not transfer to the new business – that statement shows how little I know about licensing.
At the risk of further proving my lack of knowledge, it is my understanding that people who brew on-premises may be able to serve themselves, as I believe is the case in similar places (I believe there is one in Southborough or thereabouts).
In any case, a welcome addition to a neighborhood that is slooooowly taking on new businesses (Max & Leo’s has been a frequent takeout place for us; they have some good beers, so I try to show up early to pick up my order and have a pint while I wait).
Drink AND brew local?! Awesome. If this doesn’t get Newton on a “cool” list then I don’t know what will!
Thanks for the encouraging remarks. I’m glad folks remember the place on Elliot Street and thanks for posting the article. Feel free to swing by and say hi, we’re hoping to create a bunch of Newton Gypsie brewers and we’re excited to offer this experience to Newton residents. Well it was either this or another Dunkin Doughnuts! 😉
Thanks Lee – I live around the corner and will definitely pop my head in at some point
