Sad news.
Mayor Warren, please grab this up for the Newton Cultural Arts Center, since they are being booted out of the Carr school.
As a Turtle Lane subscriber for over 15 years, I am sad at the possible loss of our beloved backyard theater. My kids grew up going to so many great “Broadway” shows at Turtle Lane. There must be a way to save it! Maybe combine a home for the Cultural Arts Center with a continued home for the theater….there have to be some good, creative ideas out there instead of the usual tear-down and build some ugly condos ending. Mayor Warren, save Turtle Lane somehow!
Has anyone heard what has led to the closing? Are they losing their premises? Do they have money problems? The statement doesn’t really hint at what the problem is.
This is an incredibly sad loss for the community and a warning for the future of community arts in Newton. @Jerry, from what I can tell, the word is that Turtle Lane is not able to continue to fund the building, particularly considering the upkeep and, I believe, renovations that it needs. No word yet as to what will happen to the property BUT they’re not done yet! Shows and summer camp will still be produced through this calendar year. Fill those seats!
Such sad news! Do we know if they are going to seek out a new “home?”
