It’s about to rain clipboards in Newton. That’s because Wednesday marks the official start of the fall municipal election when nomination papers for all 24 city council and eight school committee seats become available from the city’s election office and incumbents and hopefuls (including School Committee member Matthew Miller and Ward 2 Council hopeful Byan Barash below) begin their song and dance for our signatures and on Nov. 5 our votes.
Weather alert: Clipboard storm mid-week

I’d urge people to stop and think before signing any nomination papers for City Council. Don’t be so quick to hand over your signature. Every member of the City Council [except Lappin and Lipof] voted to overturn the 2016 ballot initiative that legalized marijuana. Ask yourself, do these people really respect you and your vote?
Not one comment about that video? Tough crowd.
@Mike Striar: The 19 other people who actually read this website know exactly how you feel about marijuana. By now you have either won or lost each of us. But a human cannot live on cannabis alone. I am genuinely interested to hear your opinions about other things.
@Michael Singer– My comment above is really not about cannabis. It’s about democracy, and how a group of elected officials not only failed to defend the voting rights of their constituents, but actively tried to undermine the outcome of an election.
Why can’t the Republicans do something like this? You should be proud of your performance.
