Former Newton School Committee member Margie Ross Decter has just launched a new series on NewTV called “School Matters,” a program that aims to raise “awareness of educational issues of local and national importance, and the efforts of students and the school community to make an impact by improving our community and the world around us.”
Here’s the premiere episode
School Matters: Student Activism from NewTV on Vimeo.
School Matters airs Monday-Friday at 5:30pm, Saturday and Sunday at 7:30pm on NewTV’s Education Channel (Comcast 99, RCN 3, 582 (HD), Verizon 32).
I wonder whether Margie will address how we make our high schools into institutions that don’t suck all the joy out of learning.
Thank you Margie. There is a news blackout of what is going on with the Newton Public Schools. I hope this show increases the sunlight in the right places.
This is an important show and much needed. I would like to see
Student guests as often as possible. The young people on the school committee are excellent. I also hope to see parents who
need a voice on redistricting.
I also believe teachers would welcome an opportunity to voice their concerns on many issues.
The busing dilemma is getting worse, so many topics.
Good luck Marjorie and thank you.
Thanks for your encouragement! As you will hopefully see from our first episide our goal is to share a 360 view on issues with an emphasis on student and teacher voices as well as parent and policymaker perspectives.
NewTv and I want to hear your feedback and ideas for topics. Please write to [email protected].
In the meantime I hope you enjoy our first show and will heed our students’ message: Please Vote!
