So Boston Magazine has just announced its annual Battle of the Burger contest.
Problem is, except for Shake Shack (and I’m not sure if chains should even count) there’s NOT ONE Newton burger on the list.
So who makes Newton’s Best Burger. Share your nomination in the comments section and maybe we’ll create our own burger poll.
Cook.
O’haras
I have been a big fan of Lee’s in Newton Centre for some time.
Dunn-Gaherin’s
I do like me a Dunn-Gaherins burger too
Dunn-Gaherin’s, specifically the New Irishman (caramelized onions, porter cheddar), medium rare.
Lee’s is also very good.
I don’t “get” the appeal of Shake Shack; for chain burgers (and fries), I would put them behind B.Good or Five Guys (and several other chains not in Newton).
Five Guys definitely has better fries than Shake Shack or most other places – just potatoes and salt, no additives. And, for those of us with food allergies, they’re fried in oil that’s used for nothing else so we don’t have to worry about cross-contamination.
Well…..I do!
I like the little sliders at Paddy’s/ O’Hara’s that you can get as part of their lunch combos. Super yummy.
When I saw this I thought, finally a post a can sink my teeth into. And then … nothing.
I’m def a burger guy. Five Guys is my hands down local fave. I don’t know what sorcery they use, but it’s so, so good. Wild Willies (in Watertown) is a close second then Dunn-Gaherins, Paddy’s & The Local are decent and enjoyable.
Five Guys burgers don’t do it for me – pretty good but not great …. but their fries are the best
I just can’t go with a chain!!! I pick Lee’s or Dunn-Gaherin’s
Lee’s has great burgers. Also Brewer’s Coalition as a weekday lunchtime burger and beer option. And Rox has great burgers. Also Cook.
If I had to pick I’d say Lee’s. But I’m a long time fan of Five Guys. I just don’t view them as local and there are so many locations near me during the day that I view them as a daytime temptation.
Mike, Wild Willies is good as well, just don’t make it down there as often. Maybe this weekend actually…nice to be able to sit down.
Though I think it’s only on Sundays, Sycamore’s burger is my favorite.
And the reason no Newton place makes Boston Magazine’s poll is that they only picked places in Boston. Otherwise Craige on Main would rightfully win.
Dunn-Gaherin’s makes the best veggie burger in Newton.
@Gail: Good to know! Never been there.
when I saw the thread title, I immediately thought of Lee’s. And I also like Paddy’s/O’Hara’s, if we’re looking to sit (and have a beer).
I love the flat patty burger at Little Big Diner in Newton Centre ! http://www.improper.com/bostons-best/2016/food-drink/burger/little-big-diner/
For traditional, fast food take out burger – go with Lee’s Burger’s in Newton Centre.
Sit down restaurant for a burger & beer – Dunn Gaherins for sure!

@Howard: The Sinclair in Cambridge is on Boston Mag’s list, perhaps others too.
The one thing that strikes me from the comments so far is that the number of beloved Newton burger places is relatively short. Nothing in Auburndale? Nothing in Nonantum? Nothing in Newton Corner?
Speaking up for Newton Corner- The Social has a very good burger, but it hadn’t occurred to me to put it on a best of list, having been to Lee’s.
Lee’s for a fast food burger. Love their special sauce and also great fries! For sit down O’Hara’s has a great burger and phenomenal onion rings. I’ve heard that Buttonwood has a good burger as well but I haven’t had the chance to make it there and will now have to wait due to their recent fire.
Can’t believe no one has mentioned Buttonwood (may they reopen soon!) or the sliders at Central.
