The Newton Upper Falls Area Council hosted a meeting May 17 that included a presentation by the developer of the proposed Northland Development on Needham Street. At the meeting, Northland’s traffic consultant provided an overview of the project’s approach to traffic and transportation. Highlands Area Council member (and excellent note taker) Srdjan Nedeljkovic and you can read all about it here.

I wish somebody could talk some sense into the Needham Select Board and get them to do something about extending the Greenway across the Charles and 128 into Needham.
MassDOT is awaiting their instructions on the 128 bridge and they’ve done absolutely nothing since their silly debate a couple of years ago about a single-lane busway.
I agree. It would be nice to be able to go over the river.
Now at least, the fence along the greenway blocking people from going to stores is down and you can get to Ski and Tennis, (for instance) without having to be on Needham St at all.
Any mention of undergrounding? Hopefully a development of this size can make a meaningful contribution, if only to do some planning to figure out how to make use of the existing 6-figure mitigation fund. (IOW, don’t just ask them to put more money in the pot)
@Adam. Yes, they plan to underground wires. But only along Needham and only for their section of the street.
I understand the consensus at the meeting from Councilors and residents alike was that discharging the major amount of traffic from the Northland Development onto Oak Street and thus into Upper Falls was a non-starter.
