Let’s be honest and objective.. is was pretty bad for the national stage…
They really could have picked someone better
@Bugek. I don’t think so. The opposition is always at a huge disadvantage responding to a State of the Union speech. This is true regardless of which party is in the White House. The only time I can recall when the respondent got the better of the fight was when Ed Muskie responded to Nixon just before the 1970 mid term elections. Joe Kennedy came across with great humor and as crisp, committed, reasonable and a bit humble, attributes that our President is incapable of manifesting.
I just had to laugh and shake my head at some of the crude and caustic comments to articles about Kennedy’s speech in today’s Globe and Washington Post. Some of them even referenced Chappaquiddick which is quite bizarre since this occurred more than a decade before Joe K was even born. But, hey when did facts ever get in the way of a good story. All this tells me is that Joe did good and his opponents know it.
I thought he did a decent job. From an optics perspective it was a bit too staged but the message was authentic and heart felt.
FYI, everyone thinks the mustang was staged but a teacher had it in the shop before the event was set up.
