…Just saw on my Facebook feed that Scott received the public endorsement of the GOP Mayoral candidate Al Cecchinelli.
And this week
Ruthanne Fuller gets the personal endorsement of Shawn Fitzgibbons (biggest supporter and advocate of Newton DEM causes), some of the most liberal, progressive city councilors in the city and her campaign is chaired by Former National DNC and Massachusetts DEM State Party Chair Steve Grossman …. just sayin…
#Fuller4Mayor .
#ProgressiveValues
#FullerWillLeadWithHERValues
Hmmm…what better way to unite the city than to elect a candidate who bridges the divide between republican & democrat, and white & blue collar? Isn’t it a given that most Newtonians are progressive? Isn’t that one of the many reasons we’ve all chosen to live in this city? I don’t understand why some keep throwing down the progressive gauntlet. What’s the point?
Just sayin’
Yes I did indeed get an email from Greg. In the interest of transparency, here is his explanation to me . I didn’t think I was trash talking but I will certainly take his advise to heart.
“Claire” I have removed your comment about Gloria for violating our commenting policy. We probably should have removed other comments from you sooner.
I suggest you follow the lead of Amy Sangiolo and other Lennon supporters who are begging folks to stop the negative trash talk. It is not helping Lennon and its intimidating folks from participating on Village 14.
Gloria – This is a nonpartisan race. However, if you want to introduce party affiliation, then remember that Scott Lennon is a lifelong Democrat.
But that’s not really the issue. The mayor of Newton needs to be able to address the needs and concerns of every resident, not just those of one party – and one wing of that party to boot. That’s the job description.
I’m affiliated with the people on your list, but even I don’t want a mayor who’s going to cater to my political group at the expense of other people in the city. At this point, I’ve begun to question Ruthanne’s commitment to all the residents of the city.
The question is coming into greater focus as the days pass: who can serve all residents of Newton fairly, with equity, no matter where they live, no matter their political affiliation? I don’t want a mayor who favors my political group over others. It’s divisive, it’s privileged, and it simply shouldn’t be part of the conversation.
Just watched the debate. For all the parents who hoped that this would be the debate where the candidates’ answered a question regarding the Mayor’s role in nudging the NPS to move to a late high school start time, I am sorry, but no such question was asked.
The good news is the candidates were not asked (again) whether they support the Charter. The bad news is that one of the question asked about traffic at a particular intersection. A particularly silly question asked whether the Mayor should ask Congress to investigate Hilary Clinton’s involvement in the Uranium One deal.
@Gloria – I don’t vote based on identify politics. I don’t vote for a particular slate of candidates, i.e. “Progressive”. I don’t overvalue political endorsements, as most are just bought, one way or another. My Mayoral criteria is common sense: based on the candidate with the vision, character, experience and communication skills to best lead and manage the city. I also tend to support “simplifiers” vs. “complicators” and people who are “energy-givers” vs. “energy takers”. After meeting both candidates, observing them in 2 debates, seeing how one candidate distorted their work experience and party allegiance, and then created an unnecessary sexism controversy for Newton, my mind is made-up. I’m voting for Lennon.
Scott Lennon is a fine public servant with tremendous integrity. He is totally committed to Newton and will skillfully bridge the divides and unite our citizens. Scott is humble and always approachable. He has a vision and will engage the community. I know he will be a great Mayor and I’m pleased to support Scott.

Gloria – only one candidate here has donated 20k to the GOP…
I’m just watching this now and wanted to tip my hat to moderator Al Cecchinelli for showing our candidates the proper respect by referring to them as “Councilor Lennon” and “Councilor Fuller.” In virtually every other debate I watched, including the league debate, moderators called them Scott and Ruthanne, which I believe is disrespectful to the office they hold.
