How are the streets and sidewalks in your village? How do you feel about people swimming in the unsupervised sections of Crystal Lake? Or what else would you like to talk about on this snowy day?

Wow, open thread? So excited!
I’m just wondering where the rest of the mayoral candidates are? So far we have two qualified people running, but neither one has articulated any kind of vision for the city. I’m looking for a candidate who recognizes the need to make property tax exempt institutions pay their fair share. I’m afraid Lennon and Fuller may be too wimpy to tackle this issue head-on.
You gotta admit, nobody can argue with today’s school start time! 😉
The number of outages in Newton is creeping up to 1,000…whereas Brookline has only one outage so far! How’d they pull that one off?

And to think an entire political movement was formed on the idea that Newton didn’t want to turn into Brookline.
Edit: the number of outages fell 50% between the 2:17 and 2:32 updates…from 967 to 476. Never mind!
Now’s the time to get out and shovel the somewhat fluffy snow which packs nicely before it turns to rain around 4 pm. Supposed to freeze tonite.
Eversource is doing a really great job here in Newton. Hats off to them: our power didn’t even flicker. Yesterday we stood in line at Home Depot for over an hour buying batteries, firewood, and candles, but I’m so relieved to know that it was all for naught and we’ll have a nice warm, well-lit house tonigERROR: POWER STATE FAILURE HSD1.NTN.MA.COMCAST.NET CONNECTION DROPPED
Finished my snowblowing activity. Other than yelling at a pickup truck with a plow speeding through a stop sign it was a nice day outside. We had a few neighbors out jointly clearing the snow. A couple of snowblowers for the walks, drives and curb cuts. And a few folks with brooms and shovels to get the part that the snowblowers couldn’t do. And hugs from neighbors as thanks.
I think it’s too cold to swim in any of Crystal Lake today, supervised or not.
And I thought no one actually reads what I write.
As predicted, a bit icy this morning, but more surprising was that the plowing in Newton Corner was quite a bit rougher than usual. Everything passable, though.
Last night we shoveled and was in the clear, until the plow came by during the night. . . . we had a glacier at the end of our driveway this morning.
However, I was happy hear that Mr. Fleishman used a DELAYED start, which I thought was very appropriate for the weather.
How do you feel if the city charged a $25-50 fee to each house to maintain the sidewalks? Many sidewalks get snow dumped onto the sidewalk from the street plows going by during each pass. So, it is hard to remove an ice coated layer when it re-freezes at night. Also, to have the burden be put onto the owner for a potential slip and fall lawsuit isn’t fair too since it is technically city property.
any thoughts?
