Setti Warren outlined his case against Charlie Baker on WGBH’s Greater Boston recently. Do you think our mayor’s arguments stand a chance against one of the nation’s most popular governors?

I hate Charlie Baker like poison. I hate him so much that I have to restrain myself from using inappropriate language in my comment. So I’m more than ready to vote for anyone other than Baker. But Setti Warren is the absolute wrong candidate for that challenge. If Warren is ultimately the Dems nominee, he’s going to get his ass kicked and we’ll be stuck with Baker for another 4 years. The Democrats need a pit bull [like Elizabeth Warren or Robert Reich] to relentlessly attack Baker’s record. Setti’s go-along to get-along approach just aint gonna cut it.
He did not look good and his rationale for running was worse. He criticized Baker for early education and housing, while he’s been ineffective at bringing full day kindergarten to Newton, not to mention changing start times. He also has failed to bring much affordable housing to Newton, nor has he significantly diversified our housing stock. His “courage” for an override and fixing the structural deficit – both were low hanging fruit, easy for the picking. He didn’t have an answer for the “Beacon Hill” problem, but acknowledge it was a combination D and R issue – so why him? If he gets the D nomination it will be another case of clearing the field for mediocrity.
Mayor Warren needs to work on messaging here. He seems like he wants to sound fiscally conservative while proposing taxes and not proposing cuts. That platform won’t work.
BTW, we may get the “millionaires'” tax, but mark my words it will raise very little tax revenue, and could likely well REDUCE tax revenue. I hope Mayor Warren does not tie his election to such a bad idea. Anyone who understands statistics, who looks a the study in the Journal of Sociology that the the legislature introduced to their deliberation will concur.
