   Someone reported on the Lower Falls list serve that the plow on his street was hitting the trees: “I was shoveling my driveway this morning when a large plow went by and really gouged the tree in front of my house. Later I noticed that he had hit 3 trees across the street and some others in the neighborhood. I saw him again and talked to him about it, thinking that he might not have noticed that he was hitting trees but he said he knew. He said he was told by the city to plow the roads wide and that meant that he would hit trees. He couldn’t help it.”

   Have you seen this on your street?

   Last night, I tried to throw the snow to the right side of the driveway and walkway, so the plow coming from the left would not push it back to where I had cleared it. This morning, however, the plow came down the street the opposite way, widening the street by plowing all that snow right back. 🙁

   Did not seem like much snow but it sure was heavy. I hope my street is not unique since we frequently see neighbors helping neighbors after a snowfall. It was my turn today to help out several neighbors with their curb cuts, nearly ran out of gas and needed to replace a belt during the process but that should be big for Karma.

   In our neck of Newton the snow was VERY heavy. After shoveling the bottom of the driveway THREE Times (felt like I was in the movie Groundhog Day), my neighbor came by and used his snow blower to make my driveway and sidewalk very wide (baked goods will be delivered to him later.

   The plow driver did widen the street very wide. So much wider than ever, but did NOT hit our new tree.

   It was a better plowing on Dickerman Road than the last major storm, a week or so back.

   Lower Derby St between Cherry and Waltham St was as poorly plowed and left such a dangerous situation on the sidewalks for kids going to Franklin School I was astonished.I have lived here since 1973 and never had I seen such disregard for the public safety of the residents.Watching the parents and children climbing snow banks on that narrowing portion of the street made me very anxious .Its a wonder the parents of those kids weren’t at city hall with torches and pitchforks.
