Over on the Twitter, I follow both the @settiwarren and the @mayorwarren accounts. Generally, posts are pretty anodyne, like this one.
Great to welcome the @Rockport team. Celebrating an exciting addition to our diverse and vibrant business community here in #NewtonMA pic.twitter.com/8Av64WDGhd

And they are almost always duplicated one account to the other.
Not tonight:
With the #mapoli's unemployment rate at 2.8%, Beacon Hill is somehow still having trouble balancing the budget. It shouldn't be. 1/

It's time to ask why Beacon Hill seems to value 'getting along' more than transparency and making tough decisions. #mapoli 2/
— Setti Warren (@settiwarren) January 25, 2017
One tough decision Beacon Hill leaders need to make is to stop using one-time revenues to balance the books. #mapoli 3/

Beacon Hill 'gets along’ with budgets relying on 1-time spending, leaving #mapoli in a perpetual state of contrived economic crisis. 4/

Beacon Hill should adopt these proposals from @MassBudget +avoid relying on one-time sources of revenue #mapoli https://t.co/9XiScgL0QO 5/5

I feel like something’s up. I just can’t put my finger on it.
preempting trumping Trump. – ‘I will not be running for senate’, but then again someone named Warren must challenge someone named Brown. oh – Brown is trumping Veteran’s affairs? and now someone named Warren is endorsing Brown for VA sec. – Arthashastra ‘enemy v. my enemy is my friend’. Love is abound, what a terrific smile..
He’s obviously going to run for governor..
With a (presumably high) position in a Clinton Administration now not a possibility, Mayor Warren is merely displaying his characteristic ambition, now focussing on the governorship. Good luck with that.
Honest question: Does Mayor Warren legitimately believe that he has the credibility to attack Governor Baker’s transparency and use of one-time revenue sources to pay for public services? Or is he simply confused about his own record? As a resident, I’d ask the Mayor to focus his efforts on his own administrations profound lack of transparency and use of tax overrides to pay for city services. I’m sure we’d all agree, there’s plenty of important work to be done in Newton.
Until he officially launches for Governor, Mayor Warren ought to serve as a better spokesperson for the people of Newton. As a point of comparison, I’d refer you to Mayor Marti Walsh’s tweet following last nights State of the Commonwealth:
“Congratulations @MassGovernor on tonight’s State of the Commonwealth address. Looking forward to our continued partnership. #MASOTC”
Governor Baker has done a good job and deserves re-election. He has not raised taxes and has held the line on spending. He has been good for business and has brought jobs to Massachusetts. Since Mayor Warren’s hopes of joining a Clinton Administration are now closed and no hopes of a Congressional or Senate seat opening in the near future his eyes are out for the Governorship.
Baker has been good for business?
Do you own a business? Please share one good thing he has done for your business.
Why would he start caring about Newton now?
Somebody must have hacked his account.
Sean, it appears Setti Warren is using his personal Twitter account for political purposes. He has already announced that he is considering and/or running for Governor in 2018. The state campaign finance laws prohibit using public resources for political purposes. I assume he is not duplicating the tweets on his personal account on the “Mayor Warren” Twitter account because it belongs to the city and is therefore a public resource.
Shorter: Setti Warren is complying with the state political campaign finance laws.
Now, before everyone gets bent out of shape because Mayor Warren, like almost every other pol worth his or her salt, uses his official city Twitter account for “political purposes” everytime he tweets about an event or program or whatever in order to publicize his accomplishments, that is okay so long as the topic involves her/his official duties in some way and does not solicit campaign funds or votes.
It’s funny how after the election we just went through, there are people who are positive that Charlie Baker is unbeatable. Yes he has great poll numbers and a message that seems to resonate in Massachusetts. But if we learn anything from 2016 it’s that polls and pundits can be wrong about sure things.
I don’t think there are many Republicans in Massachusetts who are unbeatable right now. I talked with many people at the march Saturday who are angry with Gov. Baker for his failure to commit in the presidential election. People assumed his non-attendance at the march was a snub.
Baker sucks. He’s a jobs killer. He’s done nothing to effectively turn around this state’s raging heroin epidemic. And he conspired with other elected officials to overturn a voter approved ballot initiative. It’s an awful record that a good opponent can use to pummel him.
Agree with Gail, Greg and Mike. A good candidate with a resonating campaign could win the gubernatorial election in MA – and should. Is Setti that candidate? I’ve heard people from the towns surrounding Boston say he is. I’m not convinced myself.
Yes and unfortunately we know that bad candidates win elections too!
Raise your hand if you think positioning yourself as a better manager than Charlie Baker is going to be the strongest strategy?
[whispers] Ted, I knew that.
