Newton should post signs on our side of the River reminding people that the restaurants (Dunn Gaherin’s, Echo Bridge Restaurant, etc.), shops in the Echo Bridge Mall, the Echo Bridge Service Station on Chestnut Street, and other commercial establishments near the Elliot Street Bridge are still open for business. Needham has put up full banners to that effect for the Central Avenue/Reservoir Street businesses. At the very least, Newton should print yellow adhesive notices “Elliot Street/Chestnut Street businesses Open” and put them on the Welcome to Upper Falls banners. Every one who attends the Northland development meetings should be reminded about the current businesses in the neighborhood, not just future possibilities.

I am unable to attend the meeting this evening. If others in attendance believe as I do, that the exit to Rt. 9 eastbound (when traveling north on 128) is a major safety hazard, could you kindly bring this issue up? The lack of lighting, inadequate signage and narrow roadway can make exiting the highway a bit too exciting. The Add-A-Lane project has exacerbated an existing problem. (I spoke with the project manager a couple of weeks ago to express my concerns. Hearing from others could be helpful.)
