Scott Oran, principal of the development entity Austin Street Partners, a defendant in the special permit appeal case, tells the TAB’s Jonathan Dame that the project has mostly been on hold pending resolution of that lawsuit.
“We’re awaiting a resolution of the lawsuit, which we think is baseless and frivolous,” Oran said. “But again, if it’s resolved this summer, there wouldn’t be any delay.”
Why did the Goodwill truck have to move before they broke ground?
So many people dread the day when the project begins. Thank goodness a law suit was filed. For many people the suit is not frivolous. The project is poorly designed and should not be built in the village center.
@Colleen: The construction phase will be challenging but this project is going to be great for Newtonville and Newton. Let’s talk when it’s done, you’ll see.
@Greg
What is your opinion on the proposed development at Orr building site?
@Paul: I’m waiting, at least, until I see the presentation before Land Use before making any decisions. Knowing that most projects will undergo revisions in the process, I might wait even longer.
I can say that I’m hoping Newtonville Camera finds a suitable home which allows them to continue to do business in Newton AND that I think that block is hardly living up to its potential right now.
@ Greg
Here is the latest on Cabot. Its the proposed alternative plan for Cabot.
I’d suggest it merits another thread.
Its pretty stunning to the degree this could be going back to square 1. Multiple layouts, parking footprints for consideration- there would be a lot to figure out. And its worth people weighing in whether this design is actually better aesthetically. Its the same Cabot school with an appendage that happens to be 2-3x its size on the side.

@Colleen: The purpose of a lawsuit should not be to delay a project that is legal and has received the proper clearances from the city. To use a lawsuit only to cause delay is the definition of frivolous.
I for one think it is really unfortunate that we’re going to wait so long to see the benefits of this project. I would rather deal with the inconveniences of construction now rather than push them off even further.
