Over the weekend I spoke with a friend who’s on the police force, and he said he expected there would be charges filed.

It’s going to take time for the Police and investigators to do their job with accident reconstruction and interviewing witnesses, etc. The DA’s office is on it and in due time I believe the driver will face a host of criminal charges.

Why has video Surveillance not been released ? With a Police Station on Chestnut Street and also a Bank on the corner of Chestnut and Washington Street – one would think that there is a video of this car prior to the crash.

The District Attorney’s office and the Newton Police Department are continuing their investigations. I have talked to the police and the media and other than the Fire Department’s report, which was obtained by the media through a public records request, no reports have been issued and, as far as I know, no decision about whether to bring criminal charges has been made. The DA and NPD have interviewed a number of witnesses, the State Police accident reconstruction team was involved at the scene, and I am confident that they are all doing a thorough investigation.
I know I don’t need to remind anyone that this was a very serious incident and that we all want the investigation to be as comprehensive and conclusive as possible. As much as we all want closure, I urge everyone to be patient and to continue to keep the victims and their families in your thoughts and prayers.
