This was always a precarious intersection so it seems like it can only make the corner by the Newton Community Farm safer for everyone.
New traffic light at Winchester and Nahanton to go live this week

I frequent that intersection as a cyclist and never felt it was too bad (though I mostly went through it on weekends) – that said, that change can only make it a little safer, so good.
I have avoided that intersection by driving on Rachel Road and Dedham Street to get to the VFW Parkway for decades! Now that a light will allow a left turn from Winchester to Nahanton St., I will give it a try again!
Even with the traffic light at Winchester Street/Nahanton Street, there is still a lot of traffic in the area, and it’s still hard to get out of Winchester Street during rush hours because of the traffic light at Wells Ave causing gridlock. I suggest that Winchester Street between Nahanton Street and the driveway with the chain gets removed, in order to not cause gridlock. That way though, the traffic would be going through the parking lot for the Jewish Community Center to get to Nahanton Street.
