Sixteen year Newton Alderman Marcia Johnson will attend her final meeting as an aldermen Monday night but it’s hard to imagine anything she does that evening will be more memorable than her ‘Courage’ moment as the final speaker prior to the Austin Street vote on Dec. 8.
The TAB’s Andy Levin wrote a nice column about that moment in this week’s TAB. And here’s the video, courtesy of NewTV.
And may I be the first on this thread to thank Alderman Johnson for her service to our city.
While she will be missed on the board, I have no doubt that she will continue to do great things for our community.
Thanks for posting this, Greg, I enjoyed it as much on the replay as I did that night. This is such a nice tribute to Marcia–one memorable moment in a long career of courageous and distinguished public service.
May I add my thanks to Alderman Marcia Johnson (not Marica) for her years of public service.
Bravo to Alderman Johnson for her wonderful “Courage” recitation, and even more for her conscienable service on the Board of Aldermen.
One of Newton’s finer moments. Thanks, Marci!
I don’t get it. Was she saying that it took courage to vote yes on the ASP project? Really?
Mr. Miller, in your above post…..now that’s real courage. (thanks for posting that thread, btw)
Alderman Johnson’s moment was priceless but so is Alderman Sangiolo’s body language (it certainly appears she was wrestling with her vote up to the very last minute). It’s also fun watching Alderman Kalis’ and Baker’s reactions.
To Soccer Mommy- Marcea specifically said that it would take take courage to vote either way, and it did.
What Greg said. I thought Marcie acknowledged in a very nice way that every aldermen was making a courageous vote that night.
It also appears that Aldermen Baker and Kalis have watched the Wizard of Oz many a time. I like that.
What Rhanna said! Brought a smile to my face then and again this evening.
I think it should be noted how instrumental Marcy’s colleagues, Susan Albright and former alderman Steve Linsky, also were in getting behind this project long ago.
