I read through the new proposal. I would definitely vote to increase the public space and eliminate the 3 spaces. One of my issues with the design was the short nature of the public plaza by Starbucks.
Why is there such concern over the park area? Is there really enough fear of something unsavory happening that the BOA wants ASP to keep it for resident use instead of having it as a public area? I don’t understand that! I would like to keep the garden area public.
The new sidewalk design on Walnut looks good. It’s always funny to me though that conceptual drawings show how great the new design looks compared to the current look but leaves out fundamentals like the parking meters – unless parking on Walnut Street will be free – even better.
I like making the plaza/shared street area larger. Probably few of us got everything we wanted but we are down to the wire now so let’s get this done and in progress.
Marti:
I agree completely on the garden, what is weird is that the planning department memo talked about the garden area as public. Not sure why the city would want that to be a private area.
Individual parking meters are a thing of the past. There are far more convenient and effective ways of collection.
Free parking is not an ideal especially for Newtonville.
