Citing a busy schedule, Alderman Lisle Baker told his colleagues Thursday that he has decided not to run for Charter Commission this fall but will offer his “advice and perspective that comes from over forty years of living in Newton and over thirty of them as the Ward alderman for Ward 7.”
Also, as of Thursday, here the list of Charter Commission candidates who’ve been certified by the election department.
Jane Frantz
R. Lisle Baker
Bryan Barash
Brooke K. Lipsitt
Howard Haywood
G. Groot Gregory
Nomination papers for Charter Commission must be returned by Sept 22.
Lisle,
Thank you for considering to run for the commission. I hope you are available to answer institutional questions. Thanks again.
I’m really surprised by this. His presence would have been invaluable on the Charter Commission. But this thread gives me the opportunity to reflect on Lisle’s tenure as my Ward Alderman. How fortunate Ward 7 has been to have Lisle Baker as a representative on the BoA. He served as President of the Board, and came very close to being elected Mayor. Anywhere I’ve traveled in this country people may not have heard of Newton, but most are familiar with Chestnut Hill. There are two reasons for that recognition. The first of course is Boston College. But Lisle Baker has also played a large part. I live in Ward 7 and drive through the area everyday. I see Lisle’s hand in so many things, and remain in awe of his accomplishments.
Here’s the updated list as of Aug. 31
Jane Frantz
Bryan Barash
Brooke K. Lipsitt
Howard Haywood
G. Groot Gregory
Thomas Sheff
Christopher Steele
Joshua Krintzman
I regret he will not be running. I was looking forward to voting for him.
