Katie Edwards. #519. Haven’t seen her time yet.
Last year she was:
35 Edwards, Katie USA 2:45:29
I’m sad that I now approach Patriots Day with an undercurrent of anxiety and foreboding. When I moved to Boston in the 70s I was bemused by this unknown holiday, and enchanted by the fun and joy of watching the Marathon 2 blocks from my home (years before marathons had become trendy and ubiquitous).
When I married and moved to Lincoln, I discovered the other side of Patriots Day – people who took the history seriously, the reenactments (my ex was a Minuteman) and the ceremony at the Lincoln Cemetery at the grave of the unknown British soldiers.
At the end of today, I felt relief that nothing untoward had happened, and sadness at the loss of joy in the most fun holiday I knew.
@mgwa: Sad indeed. Thanks for sharing.
Last year’s marathon was a celebration of incredible resilience. This year felt gloomier, not really due to the weather, but because it was surrounded by the trial, and all the horrific details that came with it.
Looking forward to 2016.
Marti,
I saw Katie’s time for this year, as I am guessing you have by now:

Thanks Doug. She’s a great friend and I think she was incredible as usual; she disagrees. She has had a hard time training this year; she is having some personal challenges. She and her family are some of my extra children. She qualified for Elite automatically from last year’s score, but decided not to run with them. Also for the Olympics and chose not to continue. Love her.
I didn’t realize I said “she” so many times in one paragraph.
I enjoyed watching Rebekah Gregory finishing with her trainer and saying “Today is the day I get my life back” and reading her letter and statement.
And Tatyana McFadden win the women’s wheelchair division and Bill Richards.
