Remember when Craft Beer Cellar abruptly closed its Newton Centre store this past New Year’s Eve?
Well according to the their website, they will be reopening in the middle of March at 14 Austin Street (near Starbucks) in Newtonville.

Excellent news, thanks for the scoop!
Wonder what that means for the packy under the Star Market?
What are they replacing?
Cheers!
There is currently a Yo Fresh Yogurt at 14 Austin Street. Rancatore’s Ice Cream opened around the corner on Walnut recently, which might play into the space becoming available for the beer store.
The place under Star is a Gordon’s Liquors outlet, so it’s got some good backing. But there is only so much they can do in that space. I’ve been in a few times and underwhelmed by the craft beer selection.
More of a question to me is how Craft Beer Cellar can compete with Marty’s. They already have a pretty solid beer selection and it’s not all that far away from the Newtonville location.
Still, the north side of town is now very interesting when it comes to brews. Between Marty’s, Craft Beer Cellar, Hopsters and Brewers Coalition, we have some cool things um… brewing.
Shopping at both, I would say that Marty’s has a great selection on beer, CBC has an even better one- so I would go out of my way to get to Newton Centre to fill my fridge. I have not noticed a discernible price difference between the two stores. Whether the new location makes it easier for people to detour to CBC for beer as well as getting wine, liquor and gourmet food from Marty’s is a good question. But I can say that CBC has developed a loyal following among it’s several stores.
