Steve Feller, co-owner of the fabulous Bread & Chocolate Bakery Cafes in Newtonville and Newton Highlands, was elected chair of Newton’s Economic Development Commission by its members last night.
Feller succeeds Chris Steele, whose term had expired. As is custom with the EDC, chairs do not serve back to back terms.
Steele was elected vice-chair. Janice Caillet was reelected secretary.
Is this a paid position or is it a volunteer position? Just wondering. Congrats Steve!
Was at Bread and Chocolate in the Highlands just today. I’m sure the owner of my favorite bakery will be a great Chair of the EDC!
@Alison, It’s volunteer. Very volunteer.
Thank you Chris for answering my question. Do you know if anyone can help out on the commission or do you have to be appointed?
@Alison – Commissioners are appointed by the Mayor and approved by the Board of Alders. However, helping out is always welcome (and needed!). Best course of action is either to reach out to Nancy Hyde (the City’s Director of EconDev) or just come by one of our meetings at City Hall. 7:30pm on the second Tuesday of the month, Room 204 (Ted Mann conf room).
Thanks!
Thanks again Chris Steele! I would like to get involved so I will try and make it to your next meeting!
Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy! Congrats to Steve, Chris, and thank you to all the commissioners for volunteering your time to the City.
