Post your cancellations, snow shoveling tips, grocery store line-standing experiences, link to photos of your Florida vacation home, French toast recipes and anything else you’d like to share as we prepare for this week’s snow storm.
Photo taken at West Newton Trader Joes on Monday by Terry Malloy.
I will be working from home, while the kids read, watch movies, etc. I will also be baking brownies and cookies. My neighbor with a snowblower helps us out and then I reward him with homemade cookies! Deciding which cookies I should make! So many recipes!
It was still fun shopping at Trader Joe’s, despite the crowds. Somehow, they kept the shelves stocked and they handed out chocolates to people waiting in line.
What? Is it supposed to snow? Where did you see that?
@Jim: I think it was on Newton Patch.
Et tu, Greg?
I was extremely happy to find matches, candles AND batteries at the Newtonville Shaw’s this morning. (The Shaw’s lot was full with actual Shaw’s shoppers!)

So if we all lose power, the party will be at Emily’s house.
@Emily. I also noted that the Austin Street lot was just about full.
Shaw’s was crazy yesterday and the lot was packed. I like the new towing sign too.
@Greg: Just to tamper expectations… you’ll note I didn’t buy any food.
One might think…except (and here’s the danger of sharing too much on social media) I saw this Tweet from you yesterday….
My philosophy: “This is New England. It’s winter. It snows. OMG, we need water, batteries, ice cream, tuna, milk, eggs, ice cream, bread, toilet paper. Did I say ice cream?”
Both lots have been full for days. No tape at Shaws. Trucking in cars??
D’OH! Busted. However I have 3 boys so the food is all gone 🙂
Huh, glad I didn’t have time to go to Trader Joe’s yesterday. I stopped by around 9:30 this morning, it was like a normal day, except I think all the registers were open. Plenty of milk, bread, meat, anything I wanted. There was one person in front of me in the checkout line.
And Sallee, I too have plenty of ice cream from going to Cabot’s a few days ago. 🙂
This storm sounds so bad, I’ve been advised by my editor at the Lowell Sun not to try to come in tomorrow when I was due to work. But in between shoveling every two or three hours, I’m going to try to tweet/Tout storm coverage from my corner of West Newton. I went down to LL Bean’s in Dedham and got one of about three remaining pairs of women’s snowshoes — a long overdue purchase, since I’ve spent way too many snowstorms wading through foot deep snow to get pictures. Looking forward to trying them out.
I came back from office in Haverhill about 3:30. The road conditions were just fine but the traffic on 128 was terrible. I guess all of us,decided to beat that rush hour traffic ….. together.
@Marti – I think til my dying day, every time it snows, I’ll be saying “I’VE GOTTA GET THE BREAD AND MILK. I’VE GOTTA GET THE BREAD AND MILK !!!” Too funny – thanks
Jerry, it cracks me up. My mother called from TN to see if I got the bread and milk and flashlights and batteries and on and on. It’s a snow storm. We get them here. I have my LLBean battery lanterns, always have batteries and chargers and rarely run out of bread and milk. And, of course, ice cream. Don’t have snowshoes. That’s an idea for next time.
Don’t know what I think about being banned from the roads though. Ooooh that word!!!!
That photo of empty shelves at Trader Joe’s looks remarkably like the Trader Joe’s in Needham. I went there this afternoon to get eggs, but there were none. But then I went to Waban Market, where there were lots of eggs. Quite an opportunity for some egg arbitrage!
I’VE GOTTA GET EGGS !!!!!!
So what is it about the eggs?! At 4:00, I left the warmth of my home to enter the chaos of Whole Foods to get a dozen eggs.
Does anyone know what the either unpopular or very plentiful items are on the top shelf are?
Greg, on the top right are free-range egg whites. I’m not sure how far egg whites can roam on the range, but they were free to do so, at least before they were poured into those cartons.
Great eyes Bruce. Ha ha
I sware those things on the far left look like the long cans that had sticky biscuit dough rolled up inside. When they were twisted they went POW and opened in the middle. Do they still make those?
