If you’re a Boston Globe subscriber you recently received a coupon like this, inviting you to “grant” $100 in advertising dollars to any 501(c)(3) non-profit that “operates in our community.”
If you’re a non-profit or have a favorite non-profit that you’d like to recommend, here’s your chance to explain why those of us with a coupon should “grant” the money to your organization.
Very interesting… My wife happens to run a very successful nonprofit and the “grant” coupon I got was for $50. Maybe the difference is I buy the Sunday globe paper addition and get the rest free? In any event, not sure there is any value here and we got a chuckle over the grant .
@Hoss: I’m a 7 day a week subscriber so that’s probably the difference. But don’t toss that coupon, they add up and can make a difference.
I’m a 7-day subscriber but I didn’t notice a coupon. When did they come?
Greg Reibman — Very good. I’d like to help
I’m a Sunday-only subscriber and I got one for $50. I gave my “grant” to Cradles to Crayons.
Ok, I now fished my coupon out of recycle bin. At quick reading I thought the offer was targeted at us because we had a nonprofit…. I’ll save ours and assuming they can be combined, Id be delighted to contribute the coupon. Thanks
Mine is going to Newton Tree Conservancy of course. I don’t know how much advertising space in Globe West goes for, but that seems like the logical place to expend our funny money (as opposed to the entire Globe circulation which must be a lot more expensive per column-inch). We hope it will be a way to become better known, because we’re always meeting people who’ve never heard of us. Haven’t thought about what we’d put in it — maybe some useful tree care tip, like “No Mulch Volcanos!” in time for spring landscaping season. 😉
This appears to be strictly available to be spent on advertising in the Boston globe. In that case, I nominate the Poultry Science Foundation (http://www.poultryscience.org/foundation.asp), in honor of our Aldermen courage in recognizing how badly they screwed up in Newton Centre.
A non-profit, the Boston Landmarks Orchestra, which provides free summer concerts emailed me and many other people asking for our coupons. They are dependent on Globe advertising to get the word out about their concerts.
Thanks Greg for this opportunity to give a shout out to the West Suburban YMCA (aka the Newton Y). As a Board Member I am honored to be part of a terrific organization that does so much for the Newton community regarding after school programming, our Teen Center, and Wellness, Nutrition and Fitness programming for youth, adults and seniors. We keep our annual membership dues competitive and reasonable and as such we rely a great deal on our community partners and donors for help with financial aid to those that can not afford our value based programming and support services. I have seen first hand the good works that the Newton Y has done for our community. My $100. Grant coupon went to the West Suburban YMCA and I urge others to do the same. Thanks Greg again for this opportunity to promote the Y.
