There’s a part of me that misses the old days when you had to wait until the morning to find these things out…but enjoy yourselves kids!
Newton Public Schools closed Wednesday. City Hall to open at noon.

Yah know, we should be at an age where kids stay safe at home and get an education remotely, through technology. Just sayin.
Um, I am kind of at a loss. My wife’s school has a two hour delay and had more than an inch of snow. Newton gets an inch of light, fluffy snow and no school. Huh?
Oh well, I guess our kids will have to make it up at the end of June.
Setti made the call too soon. However, it is bitterly cold and many children are ill already.
I don’t get it either.
Maybe Fox25 was right (Oh, wait that was about something else)
And delaying opening City Hall? Odd.
WHY do they make the call so early??? Back in the stone ages, we had no home computers, email, SUVs, snow blowers and most of the time I went to school in the snow!!!!! Yup. Put on boots and my mom drove me in a car that didn’t have seatbelts!
With all of this “technology” of better forecasting, faster ways of contacting parents (email and text), I am still working remotely from home because my two kids have the day off. Had SOMEONE waited (like Needham, Wellesley, Weston and Waltham) to make the call, then things would be different.
I still don’t know why Newton doesn’t do delayed starts.
At the end of June, Angier is the HOTTEST building around, and I want my kids in summer camp. School doesn’t need to drag ON and ON and ON. Don’t cancel school until 5 AM! Like what used to happen in the 70s and 80s!
The last storm, the City was criticized for not letting kids out of school sooner and for waiting so long before calling off school the next day. This time, they make the call too early. Weather is far from an exact science and ALL the reports were that we would get clobbered with snow, strong gusty winds and frigid temps. Based on that, the decision to cancel school and close the Hall for half a day was warranted. This is a damned if you do and damned if you don’t situation. Call it too early and people complain. Wait until the last minute and people complain. You can’t have it both ways.
I am fine with waiting for the call until the morning. I don’t understand the need to close early. But with the media, it is always all hype and we need to learn to be patient and see if the hype is just hype or will it turn into a real storm.
The Mayor of Boston was all for safety . . . . well I like to be safe also, however last year during the two day blizzard, two feet of snow, yes, that was a real reason to close the stores. Today I bet the malls and movies are FILLED with people (families). If people can get to the mall and the stores, they can get to school.
I would LOVE it if the TAB did a story about why Newton doesn’t do delays any longer. Any one willing to take the article. I have written to the superintendent, and never got a real answer. . . . just a thanks for your concern response.
OMG! This made me laugh.
Like.
I don’t think we needed a snow day on Wednesday, January 22.
