Here’s a video from (most of) Tuesday’s debate between Newton Mayor Setti Warren and Alderman Ted Hess-Mahan. Note, due to technical difficulties, the first few minutes of the program are missing. The video begins as NewTV’s Jenn Adams is asking Newton Mayor Setti Warren about Engine 6 and his commitment to hold a community discussion about affordable housing.
The other panelists are Trevor Jones from the Newton TAB and Evan Allen from The Boston Globe. I was the moderator.

Speaking as private citizen, I can’t tell you how helpful these NewTV dabates have been. I even watched and then re-listened to two.
These don’t happen without a lot of production effort and support and I’m glad they exist. The short candidate blurbs are very good to watch too.
We are down to the last weekend before the November 5th election and I encourage everyone to read and promote the League of Women Voters just published voters guide. ( http://lwvnewton.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/LWVN-2013-Municipal-Voters-Guide-copy.pdf ) The electorate may be seeing their Mayor/Alderman/School Committee Person/or Candidate for the first time, or it may be a refresher, but anyway that you look at this is a great “who’s who.”
Hmmm — take a look at the link from James Cote, no response from Setti Warren. You’d think a strong Democrat that ran for Senate would respond to NLWV? Someone didn’t check his mail?
Jim, thank you very much for sharing that link. I was looking for it at their website.
I normally don’t agree with Hoss but he made a good point about how Setti Warren did not respond to the League’s questionnaire. James Cote’s opponent dropped out but that didn’t stop him from delivering a three minute message and responding to the League’s questionnaire.
Did anyone else notice that Mayor Warren stopped short of saying he “pledged” to stay in office for another four years.
Go to the 57:50 mark on the video.
Greg – that news? I have heard for weeks he is just doing this till the Lieutenant Governor Spot becomes available. So he will do this for maybe another 6 months or so and then he will be focusing on his next opportunity. Anyone who believes otherwise is a fool.
Joanne: you’re listening to foolish people, the Lt Gov spot is available now.
Joanne – The Lt Governor spot is available and the job will be filled next November. Serious campaigning will start in January and has probably already started for some of the candidates; it can’t wait six months. I think it’s doubtful that Mayor Warren will start campaigning for a new office as soon as he’s inaugurated for a second term of his current job. That wouldn’t be a wise campaign strategy for any office.
Time will tell who is the foolish one.
