If you get over there, be sure and check out the silent auction. Unbelievable selection.
It sure was a beautiful day for it. The only problem is that I have writer’s cramp because of all those candidates with their clipboards.
I had to leave before all the returns were in for the Silent Auction, but it was clearly an unqualified success even before the cutoff time of 4:30 PM. More than 85 merchants donated a combination of goods and services. The bands were great and John Rice, the Mayor of Newton Highlands was in good form. The Hide Bandstand is about to open and the peonies and other large flowers in the Peace Garden are spectacular. A great time to be a member of the Newton Highlands Area Council.
@Jerry – speaking as one of the candidates with clipboards, I wanted to pass along our thanks to all of the residents who took a few moments to stop and talk. I certainly appreciated the chance to hear about others’ concerns and ideas for the City. Of course I am also thankful to all those who signed my nominating papers and said they’d be willing to help out later in the campaign.
And it really was an excellent day to be out having a great time! The Highlands puts on a great party, and I also echo what Bob said above about the great bands and the thanks to the merchants.
The largest item in the silent auction went for BIG money; Bob Burke was auctioned off to a consortium of ladies of a certain age. Take your vitamins Bob!
It was fun to see the beginning of the campaign season; lots of clipboards looking for signatures, a sleek Mayor Warren (in prime campaign shape) and of course the great wizard of the Highlands, John Rice, who’s bandstand is almost ready for primetime.
Also terrific to see longtime gadfly and blogger Shlock. He’s been missed.
