Aldermen are still looking for citizens willing to serve on a Leaf Blower Task Force established by the board last spring, Newton Patch reports.
Don’t complain or defend leaf blowers, join the policy discussion

Thank you, Village 14, for publicizing the task force. This is on my bucket list of things to complete before I retire from the Board of Aldermen. There has been a great deal of interest from residents who want to be part of the task force. But we also need a representative from the landscaping companies, and golf courses and institutions who rely on the use of landscaping equipment to maintain their properties, to participate in this process so we can reach consensus on a workable solution.
I want to apologize to all of the residents who have contacted me over the past twelve months to express their support for and desire to participate on the task force. My duties as chairman of the Land Use Committee, and caring for my father this past year during his final illness, has prevented me from investing the substantial time required to get the job done. With the support of President of the Board Scott Lennon, I will do my level best to complete this work.
Thank you for your interest.
Alderman Ted Hess-Mahan
Thank you!
Lucia, ICYMI (and I am pretty sure you did not), carbon dioxide concentrations in the Earth’s atmosphere are approaching the 400 ppm milestone. CO2 levels are rising at unprecedented rates, from burning of fossil fuels, and contributing to global warming and climate change. Source reduction is an essential part of curbing greenhouse gas emissions, and gas powered leaf blowers contribute to the problem. So this is not a trivial issue.
