In today’s TAB, former Alderman John Stewart proposes that the city put away its snow plowing equipment for the year. If it snows, he writes, just wait until melts “at no cost to taxpayers.” (Stewart’s letter is not yet online).
With the possibility of a snowy mix in the forecast but temps expected to be in the 40s going into the weekend, is Stewart right?
So, would the sidewalk shoveling ordinance also not apply, if it’s going to melt anyway?
Oh ffs, everybody drives so no problems, it can melt. Tell that to me trying to get to work on my bike on a slush filled road, or better yet trying to get to the commuter rail across a slush filled road (because I can’t bike because of the slush filled road) , or even better tell that to grandma or the kid trying to get to school. I think we need a smarter way to plow and a smarter way to prioritize routes both for cars but also for folks biking and for folks walking, but not plowing and calling it good is not smarter.
I am still having to climb over and walk in the street in a couple spots where the snow has not melted from the last storm.
You know its only a couple months from December until spring, why bother having snow clearing equipment anyway, it will just melt…
Sigh
I have to imagine we know the answer to this question now. Bad idea.
Clearly Stewart invoked the wrath of the snow gods by cavalierly dismissing them.
