This is a trend that is not going to be reversed by farmers markets and shop-local pledges. We need to radically rethink our village centers and how to keep them vital.
Density. Small grocery stores. Significant improvements in pedestrian movement.
I do a ton of online shopping, but that generally replaces mall and box store purchases. I still do a different type of shopping in the villages, for unique items and personalized service. I don’t think I’d ever replace that kinds of shopping with online shopping.
