Although Mayor Warren said yesterday that trick or treating will go on tonight, the power is still out in my neighborhood, there are wires crossing the road and our street remains closed.
How are the streets and sidewalks in your village?

In Charlesbank area of Newton Corner, we were relatively unscathed despite having a number of dead trees in the area that usually cause a little havoc in windstorms. No power outages here that I was aware of, though neighbors did report Comcast going out (I have Verizon FiOs, which never went out).
One big exception. Trees in the state property adjacent to the Pike and RR tracks fell over, nearly hitting a house and still threatening the house and the utility wires (not sure if any are electric). Because it’s state property there have been issues trying to get people on the case, but Alderman Lennon has been responsive and I suspect something will get done sooner rather than later.

I’ve been told the tree blocking my street will be removed today. Free candy for everyone!
My part of Newton Highlands is fine. Looking forward to the trick-or-treaters.
@Greg – Alderman John Rice was just directing the NStar and City tree teams in that vicinity, so you may be freed soon.
We have Internet again in my house! It’s been rough going…
Kids are out on Hunnewell Hill, having a good time!
Eerily empty! Haven’t seen a trick or treater since my little vampire went out with her dad half an hour ago. And the streets here at our neck of Upper Falls have been safe and clear throughout the storm.
We are setting a record for trick or treaters here on Watertown Street in West Newton. Every witch and goblin and Power Puff Girl I have asked has their power back.
So jealous Ted. And Indiana Terrace in Upper Falls was hopping too, I was told.
Indiana Terrace in Upper Falls was hopping, bopping, rocking and rolling. We have lived here for 24 years, and this was the busiest Halloween ever. We have a wonderful neighbor who owns a real cotton candy machine, and he makes a new flavor every October 31. The news has spread and brings lots of trick or treaters, locals and others arriving in cars. Great costumes tonight.
Still no electricity in my neighborhood. We had one brave trick or treater. He was a hen. Or maybe a rooster. It was dark.
Sadly, our little street never has many trick-or-treaters. I miss living someplace with lots of kids coming round.
We only had about a dozen kids in my neighborhood near Countryside (where Internet is out again!). That’s a really small turnout for this area. 🙁
Chestnut Street very different from Carlton Road a year ago. Many more kids. Much less leftover candy (damn).
@Not a Fan – Here’s a little more info about our cotton candy spinning neighbor.
I know not everyone is out of the woods yet, but to everyone who has their heat and electricity (and internet connection) back, please consider writing a brief email to the Mayor’s office thanking everyone who worked many, many hours over the past few days to get things back to as close to normal as quickly as possible after one of the worst storms in American history. I won’t risk omitting anyone who deserves your thanks by trying to name all the folks who have been working for you all week, but please know there are many people who work for this city who have been apart from their families and friends all week in order to make things better for you. And keep the folks in New York and New Jersey and elsewhere who lost their homes or lost family members and friends because of this storm in your thoughts and prayers as they try to recover in the weeks and months to come.
Kudos to Scott Lennon for responding quickly re: the Charlesbank-area trees noted above. On my way back from my usual Hunnewell Hill “haunts” I noticed that the trees had been removed. Nice.
Lights went on in my little neighborhood at about 6 pm Thursday. Many thanks to Alderman Rice and the city employees who made sure NStar didn’t forget us.
