I’d also like to ask some of those protesting outside exactly what they think the mayor should have done regarding Cummings after reading the Mitnick report?
Not me, the only thing I’m running for is my life as I try to walk across the Newton Corner Circle of Death every morning.
How about just putting the Chief on administrative leave and withholding from making any statements until after his hearing. By holding a press conference denouncing the man on the same day you announce your re-election campaign it just looks he was just trying to remove himself from the case rather than trying to find the truth.
It says a lot that the Chief requested a public hearing and I think there is going to be a lot more to this story that will come out in the days ahead. I personally believe that nobody really make an opinion either way on this matter until after Warren provides Mitnick’s “sufficient” credible evidence and Cummings has an opportunity to rebut.
has there ever been a governor and lieutenant governor from Newton simultaneously?
@Schlock: Certainly you can’t be suggesting Grossman should run for Lt. Gov? He already has a better job than that.
Same answer if you’re suggesting Mayor Warren should run for Lt. Gov!
I think Mayor Warren has done a good job. He’s been a tremendous upgrade over our previous mayor. He would be very tough [but not impossible] to beat in an election.
That being said, I’m not altogether convinced that Mayor Warren actually completes this reelection run. If President Obama is reelected, and I assume he will be, it would open up other opportunities for the Mayor, who has already shown himself to be a political opportunist with career aspirations. I’m not saying that as a knock on Mayor Warren, just stating it as a fact.
Whether he stays or goes, choice is essential to democracy. So if he stays, someone has to step up to the plate and run against him. Hopefully it will be someone with different ideas about how to make Newton an even better place, so we can have a genuine debate about the future of our city.
