I suspect there’s not a lot of people who are undecided in the contest between Republican Sean Bielat and Democrat Joseph Kennedy III to fill the seat currently held by Barney Frank. So vote in our unscientific poll and then go to comments and explain your decision,

Haha, despite the highly scientific pole being conducted herein, this race is all but over. Bielat had a chance to build on his last run for this seat that came against Barney Frank. Unfortunately [or fortunately if you’re a JK3 fan], Bielat did no such thing, falling short in national fundraising, and failing to define himself as a candidate.
Mike,
Congressional politics and governance is a team sport, especially in the House. Bielat’s biggest problem is that most folks around here want their rep to play for Team Pelosi more than for Boehner United.
I’ll never forget Sean Bielat coming into the GateHouse offices for an editorial board/endorsement meeting along with Barney Frank. Bielat would not give his opinion on women’s reproductive rights because he didn’t believe it would be an issue that would come before Congress. It was the most pathetic answer I ever heard from a politician.
Point #1, Mr. Bielat, it’s a volatile issue in this country and voters want to know where you stand. Point #2, Mr. Bielat, you don’t know what issues are going to come before you. Point #3, Mr. Bielat, an issue can come before you in many different shapes. Women’s reproductive rights is a perfect example. Point #4, Mr. Bielat, even if it doesn’t come before you in one term, it could be an important issue the following term. When voters elect a congressman, their decision usually has ramifications beyond two years.
I’ll get off my soapbox now. I guess that’s been bugging me.
I am guessing JKIII will not have a tough time winning this race. Bielat’s refusal to say where he works, as well as his campaign finance violations, also made him appear pretty amateurish.
I made up my mind about Sean Bielat when he jumped on the “government doesn’t create jobs” bandwagon last time around. At the time, he’d been holding down a government contract to produce bomb-defusing robots. I guess none of those jobs actually existed!
Wow. Sean doesn’t have a shot according to all of you posters here on this blog. I guess all of you koolaid drinking folks believe that a trust fund kid from one of the most dysfunctional and non law abiding families in American history with zero experience and only credential being his last name is more qualified for a US congressional seat than a dignified, hard working, self made family man who honorably served his country in the USMC and has had private sector business success. I’m not from Mass. and am an independent. This race couldn’t epitomize any more how stupid the electorate is in some parts of our great country. We are in dire straits and there are many scary trends with respect to debt, growth of gov’t, and social issues. The LAST thing we need is another unqualified, celebrity politician to send to Washington.
If you believe in big government, higher taxes, class warfare, global governance and a host of other liberal tenets, then the choice is clear…you vote for Kennedy. On the other hand, if you view the world through a more conservative lense and believe in smaller, limited government, lower taxes, equal access and opportunity for everyone, strong defense and American Exceptionalism…you vote for Bielat. This election has nothing to do with a woman’s reproductive rights…this is merely a lame attempt to deflect away from the real problems and issues: a weak econonmy, a poor job market and a level of debt that is completely unsustainable. When was the last time a woman was denied access to contraception or an abortion? Anyone? Give me a break. Roe vs. Wade is not getting overturned and no one is going to steal your contraception or deny anyone access. Bunch of fear mongers trying to scare people into voting for their guy because you can’t win on the actual issues. Sad.
