Former Newton Alderman Charlie Shapiro came in 3rd place in his attempt to unseat incumbent Marilyn Devaney for Governor’s Council, according to Boston.com
In another down ticket contest involving a Newton candidate former Mayor Tom Concannon looks to finish third for Register of Deeds with Maria Curtatone leading.
Oh and Newton’s Herb Robinson lost to some guy named Kennedy.
I congratulate Ms. Devaney on winning an 8th two-year term on the Council and I thank Mr. Margolis on joining me for a civil, issues based campaign. One of my goals in running for the office was to increase public awareness and understanding of the Governor’s Council and I’m proud that’s something we were able to help successfully achieve.
A huge “Thank you” to our volunteers and supporters!
Charlie Shapiro
Thank you Charlie for a great race. You were the only candidate that gave a clear picture of how you would apply your values to the job at hand as Councillor. You brought this rather obscure government entity to life in a unique and engaging way. You and Debbie can be proud of the effort you made. I was glad to be with you.
Speaking as private citizen, Charlie shined a much-needed brighter light on this group. He raised awareness of its role and I appreciate those efforts and his work. Plus the involvement of people willing to run keeps everyone “on their toes” and I thank him for his hard work.
While no one expected Herb Robinson to win, it’s interesting to note that of the three Newton candidates only Tom Concannon won in Newton.
To clarify my post, I meant the primary win. It was late.
…and thanks again to Bob, Mark and the dozens of volunteers who helped out and encouraged our efforts, and to the thousands who cast a vote for me.
Thank you,Charlie. I hope you will be back.
Thank you, Charlie, for shining a spotlight on this very important board. Few people understand the real significance of the Governor’s Council, and I genuinely applaud all you have done to elevate public awareness of this very critical Board.
