Crystal Lake flunks test, remains closed for at least another week

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health sent the following email to the city  regarding the most recent testing results at Crystal Lake.

A water sample was collected at Crystal Lake on Monday August 6th. Laboratory analysis showed cyanobacteria levels of 83,000 cells/ml, exceeding the MDPH guideline level of 70,000 cells/ml. Microcystin toxin level was <1 ppb.

We recommend that the current advisory remain in place and will sample again next week. Thank you.

    Of course it does. Why would anyone want to swim after August 19th? [sarcastic]

    [seriously] After refusing a to hold a public hearing about swimming at Crystal Lake, each member of the Parks and Recreation Commission should have been dismissed.

    I mean, who could argue with the stellar job they’ve done managing that resource? [sarcastic]
