What’s for dinner in Newton lockup

| Newton MA News and Politics Blog I was fascinated by Ashley Studley’s story today about the food served when being held in a Newton jail cell.

    The article doesn’t go into it but I’m guessing the average stay in the Newton jail is not long, perhaps overnight in many cases or over a weekend depending on when court is open.

    Great photo to illustrate your post Greg. It was a great story idea for the Tab. It conjured up an image of two prisoners bickering over who got the better toy in their happy meal.

    I wish we could’ve run that photo with it. You’re right Greg, I should’ve mentioned the average stay but it’s typically a night or two – unless someone gets arrested on a long weekend. Then it’s all the McDonald’s a prisoner can stomach.

    We did this story in Brookline recently, too. Those prisoners get Dunkin Donuts and local subs – on the town’s dime.

    @Jerry: Guessing the toy saw would be a favorite.

    @Ashley: So basically the plan to deter crime is to slowly reduce the number of criminals though malnutrition?
