With some reclaimed lumber or lumber donations, a few skilled volunteers could have finished this in a weekend, couldn’t they. Should I wonder if this board is more money-centered than community-minded?
Reasonable question, although this is Newton. Maybe there’s a design review committee. Has Graham Gund ever done a farm stand?
@Greg, I thought you were going to ask whether the city would be selling the naming rights.
Greg,
I know you were trying (with moderate success) to be funny, but a design competition for the farm stand would be wonderful. The first stand was fine, but a project of this scope is just the kind of thing for a young architect could go to town with to help build her portfolio.
@Ted: Actually I’m worried that someone or some entity that might otherwise give money for this might decide to hold out for a chance to have Newton North’s ceremonial entrance named after them instead.
@Sean: Design competitions are great. Committees that delay and drag out the process not always so good.
It’s a roadside stand next to a community garden. The woodshop students in my high school designed and built very handsome gazebo next to the school. It’s still there. Again — community first.
@Hoss: sounds like you need to sign up for the board and present your proposal.
$5000 for what was basically a shed? Come on people. Handicap accessible? It’s at the side of the road!!!!! Enough with this story. This is a $200 job. Give me a f*cking break!
