This according to the Newton Highlands Neighborhood Area Council Facebook page…
Newton Traffic Council voted to impose a 60 day trial parking ban on Walnut St. from Beacon St to Forest St. During this period the Area Council will be collecting comments from residents. Information on the meeting is available on the City of Newton website.
I haven’t listened to the meeting yet but the Traffic Council page on the city’s site doesn’t add many details (such as saying when this would start) and nether the TAB nor Patch seem to have covered this at all. (We did earlier) If you were at the meeting please share details here.
I attended only the last portion of the meeting prior to the vote. The City web site will have some information presented at the meeting which I am looking forward to review having missed it. One thing I did learn is that the Traffic Council has a 6 month backlog and may take a while after the trial period to remove the signs. I gather that this could be an extended 60 day trial. It will be interesting to see where in the neighborhood cars currently parking on Walnut will move to during this period. For those who have been following the issue all are in agreement that the current situation could be improved to increase safety of drivers entering Walnut but there apprlear to be several approaches to achieve this goal.
I encourage folks to send comments to the Highlands Area Council.
What Groot said.
Groot or Bob – Could you outline what some of the other approaches/solutions might be?
