Please join me in thanking Newton TAB reporter Jim Morrison, who is leaving the paper June 26 for a position at Banker & Tradesman. A journalist of remarkable patience and good humor, he will be missed around here.
Along with all the usual municipal coverage, our rough and tumble politics and feature stories, generations of Newton TAB reporters also have the unique chance to cover the world famous Boston Marathon as it passes along Heartbreak Hill. Most of us take that for granted around here, but really, it is a unique assignment that reporters who’ve moved on tell me they remember fondly for years.
In Jim’s case, his first day on the job was April 15, 2013, hardly a typical first week in the office.
That was a helluva first day on the Newton beat.
I can honestly say I always looked forward to talking to Jim when he would call to talk about Newton politics. He combined a natural curiosity and interest in people and events with a somewhat mischievous side that I always appreciated. Now that Jim is moving on to bigger and better things, I can reveal that his nickname for me was “The Rapscallion Stallion.” I must admit I always took this sobriquet with a measure of pride.
Jim, I will miss you. Be well, do good work, and keep in touch.
Good luck and it has been a pleasure to read your articles and tweets!
I’m going to miss Jim’s professionalism and the grace and good humor he always showed to me and others.
Jim,
Good Luck. Big loss for the Tab. Take care.
Congratulations and good luck Jim! Newton’s loss is B&T’s gain.
A loss for the TAB and Newton; good luck and all the best.
Thanks very much for the generous words and to all the people who frequent this little corner of the web who have helped me with so many stories. Newton is unique as you know, and those of you who have lived elsewhere know just what a gem of a city it is. I hope you keep in touch and don’t mind if I lurk on back here from time to time to check in. Above all,
Be excellent to each other,
Jimmy
Jim, will be missed because of his fair and accurate reporting of many of the pressing issues facing our city but also highlighting many of the wonderful people that reside in Newton and the many educational and fun events.
Thank you
Jim
