It appears that the first challenger in the 2015 BoA election has emerged, although I’m not sure why Jake Auchincloss doesn’t like to share his last name on his website, he’s apparently running for Alderman at Large in Ward 2.

Looks like an impressive resume. If I was the incumbent, I would be worried.
Great news, the 2 women that hold the current at large alderman jobs are out of touch with their constituents.
Good luck, Jake!
When I heard Auchincloss, I think of Jackie Kennedy!
Wow, totally impressive background.
Jake, thanks for your service.
Get ready to go door to door.
A former Marine, Republican, running for Alderman at Large in Newton? Sounds familiar. Semper Fi Jake
Semper Fi, 1stSgt Cote! (Though I’m an Independent, not a Republican – VoteBuilder often gets it wrong.) And point well taken on the last name, Greg; the logo and the functionality of the interactive buttons are still in the works.
I will be at Basic Airborne Course for USMC Reserves training in January, but I can’t wait to return and dive into this campaign. I am a proud product of the Newton Public Schools and I love this city, but I am concerned that some members of the Board are content to let Newton stand still when the Greater Boston region is rapidly making progress in areas like education and transportation. The Ward 2 at-large incumbents have served honorably, but it’s time for a fresh perspective.
And Tom, I’m always ready for doors! I organized 150K doors for the gubernatorial election, and now I’m excited to speak with Newton voters at their doorsteps about the local issues they care about, like the walkability of our village centers. Another issue especially important to me is early-childhood education. Next week, the TAB should be publishing an Op-Ed in which I urge Newton to take the lead on that front. I welcome all of your feedback on the Op-Ed (and the website) and I hope to meet with each of you when I return from temporary active duty in February.
I predict that one of the two incumbent Ward 2 at-large Aldermen will not seek re-election. Just think Congressman Tierney, he got knocked out by someone of a similar background. New faces are needed in Newton government!
I love it when there is a contested race. That is true democracy and gives the voters a choice and everyone a real chance to examine the issues.
Good job, Jake! Way to hit the ground running!
Jim … if he works as hard as you, we’d be very lucky indeed to have him as another addition on the Board!
BTW I believe the Auchincloss family are fairly well established Democrats and that Jake is unenrolled himself. But local elections are non-partisan, so that hardly seems to matter.
Hi Jake, it’s always great to see young person decides throw their hast into the political arena.
You said, “I organized 150K doors for the gubernatorial election,” For whom?
I hate it when people assume that a candidate is a member of a party or not. Many people to this day believe I am a republican. People that have never talked to me, when I finally get to meet them, assume I am a republican….either thru what a neighbor says or because I disagree with them on an issue and they assume since they are democrats, all democrats think like them, therefore, I must be a republican :). Really lazy.
Jake, I noticed on your website, you called for guaranteeing every Newton child an enriching pre-Kindergarten experience.
How do you propose that Newton pay for that program?
Do you think that proposals for Full-Day-Kindergarten don’t go far enough?
