Greer Tan Swiston, Newton alderman-at-large from Ward 3, told Village 14 via an email today will not seek reelection next fall. Actually, she seemed surprised that everyone did not know this.
Hmm … I thought I’d made it pretty clear during the last election.
No, I’m not running for re-election. That can be on the record. I’ve not been making a secret of it.
We’re going to miss Greer, too. I didn’t always see eye to eye with Greer, but I certainly always understand her position and she was always transparent (something I respect). Good Luck Greer.
I’m sorry to see Greer leave the BoA. She’s been an important voice – even when I disagree with her, I’m glad she’s there.
What’s impressive about the majority of our aldermen is how hard they work in service of our city. Greer certainly stands out among our board members as someone who is always mobilizing and organizing something for the benefit of our community. She deserves our thanks and admiration. I certainly hope leaving the board does not mean retiring from being active in Newton.
Best of luck in your future endeavors, Greer, and thanks for your service to the city.
Thank you all for your kind words and well wishes. @Greg … I’m not going anywhere. I’ll still be a citizen of Newton. See you at our West Newton Ca$h Mob!
Being Alderman has been a rewarding and enlightening experience and feel I am a more appreciative citizen because of it. I highly recommend and encourage others to run, to serve and to move on.
