From the Boston Globe..
Medina-Perez, picked up by Newton police on drug charges, faced a fugitive warrant for drunken driving in Pennsylvania and a detainer from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to a courtroom audio recording of the bench conference. In fact, an ICE agent was in the courthouse, waiting to detain Perez and start the deportation process.
“ICE is going to get him,” the judge told the attorneys during the April 2 sidebar conversation. “What if we continue [the case]?” she suggested, before instructing a clerk to turn off the courtroom’s audio recorder. Whatever was said during the next 58 seconds went unrecorded.
UPDATE: Baker calls for judge to be removed during investigation
Heart breaks for the victim, her life is forever changed.
Isn’t is common sense to not release a suspect if they could be considered a flight risk.?
Bugek: I think you may be confusing the two incidents. The rape case was a prior incident with a different judge. Not excusing, just clarifying.
Greg,
The article references the rape case where the judge set a low bail of $2500 and the suspect disappeared….
Absolutely true Bugek and that incident has been discussed here and elsewhere.
I just want to make sure readers realize that the incident now being investigated by a grand jury relates to a different judge and set of circumstances. That’s all.
58 seconds are missing from the court recording judge JOSEPH turned off recording. . First criminal offense. Allowing a suspect to flee with fentanoyl and opioids found in his car. Criminal aiding and abetting . Lawyer asking to commmitt crime should be disbarred . Ps in one week after . thanksgiving 2 people overdosed . Consider judge Shelly JOSEPH to be
Partly responsible for these . Just my opinion
This is absolutely mystifying to me. There has to be something missing in this story. Unreal.
@Tom,
Yes, what’s missing are the two suspects that were allowed to walk away.
There’s an update in today’s Globe.
