According to Mayor Fuller’s news update, we should expect tomorrow morning to be a mess. We still don’t know if school will be cancelled, (kids – you’ll have to check snowdaycalculator or wait until the phone may or may not ring at 5:00 a.m.), but we do know that yard waste will not be collected, the MBTA is moving forward with accessibility improvements to the Commuter Rail (design only but no increase in trains), design in moving forward for the Newton Highlands MBTA Green Line station, and there will be some sort of plans for a project to reduce traffic congestion at the “Circle of Death” in Newton Corner, and both the ban on recreational cannibis shops and limit on the shops both lost at the polls and the Zoning and Planning Committee has approved the proposed zoning regulations for recreational cannibis shops to the Full Council for a possible vote at the next Council meeting (November 19th). And don’t forget about the Parking Ban!
In case you didn’t know – it’s snowing!!

Thank you, Amy! What’s snowday calculator? Can anybody check it?

This is the first I’ve heard of Snow Day Calculator – my initial exclamation of “this is so cool!” was promptly replaced with “this is so useless!” I can get a more accurate prediction by flipping a coin.

Call came in after my high schooler was in the shower. But loved how it was a delay and not a cancellation of the entire school day.
The city could of let us know a little sooner about the yard waste before my neighbors and I put out about 80+ bags plus about a dozen bundles of twigs/branches! Having to waite until the Saturday after Thanksgiving for pickup is ridiculous!
Michael, the snow day calculator that Amy linked has been pretty accurate over the past few years. In any event, it is fun to watch the mounting excitement among my kids as they obsessively check the calculator when a storm approaches. The thrill they get as the probability ticks up reminds me of the thrill of listening to the radio and hearing more and more schools added to the cancellation list as you wait to hear your school’s name. Waiting for a phone call just doesn’t compare!
thankfully they picked up my leaf bags just today. my regular pickup was Tue, delayed until Wed for the holiday, so seemingly running two days late.
at one point last year I had to call and ask if they were still picking up and they told me they were running 6 days behind, to which I responded that means you’re coming a day early? they didn’t understand. moral of the story is just leave them on the curb indefinitely and pray the snow blow does get them first.
The city made a mistake. RuthAnne I hope you are listening.
If the leaves did not get picked up on Friday, they ought to be picked up on Monday. Why should we wait an entire week.
As someone said this is a ridiculous decision.
