Huntington TV is moving to a new location further down Route 9, leaving this highly visible location at the corner of Rt. 9 and Elliot Street vacant.
Problem is the spot has only a handful of parking spaces in the back and there’s no street parking nearby.
BTW, the shape of this building looks like an old A&P. Anyone know if that’s what it used to be? If so, where did people park?
Does anyone know if parking’s the reason they’re moving? They’d been in that space for many years.
@Greg. Before it was Huntingtons, it was the Highland Pharmacy run by a wonderful gentleman named Joe Selden. Joe was an institution in Newton and he was active in many civic affairs including the first real efforts to install water pollution controls at Crystal Lake. Joe had a nice soda and ice cream fountain in one corner of the store, and it was a regular stopping off point for many of the old Red Sox players including Ted Williams and Dom Dimaggio. I worked in his stock room two afternoons a week while I was in Junior High, but he’d never let me work past 6 because that’s when it was time to go home and study.
@Greg again. Parking never seemed to be a problem there or anywhere.
It’s a very good location for the Highland’s Smoke Shop http://tinyurl.com/More-Legis-Smoke (No smoking on premises of course)
I think it’s the perfect location for the Tab.
@mgwa – I think they moved out because of the condition of the pedestrian crossing (see photo) 🙂
I love learning stuff like the BOB. Thanks.
