Cordially invite you to our Candidate Showcase
Sunday, October 8, 2017, 1:30pm to 4pm
Angier Elementary School
Beacon Street in Waban.
1.)Our format will be to call upon the group of three (or four) candidates from each ward who are running against each other and ask them to come forward. Each candidate will be asked to begin with a prepared 90 second presentation featuring the salient reasons why that candidate should be the voters’ choice. The moderator will question the candidates from that ward, asking them both general citywide and specific ward questions. Candidates will be advised on exactly how much time they will have to answer. The process should take roughly 30 minutes for each of the four ward groups.
2.)This process will be repeated four times, with a 5 minute break after group 1 and group 3.
3.)There will also be a 15 minute intermission after group 2. At the end of the fourth group of candidates, there will be a question period of all the candidates that will be very important to each candidate to complete the presentation. This period will last about 25 minutes and we highly recommend that all candidates remain for this important activity.

The Four Neighborhood Area Councils–Newton Highlands, Newton Upper Falls, Newtonville and Waban–will be producing TWO Showcases, featuring ALL the candidates running in citywide competitive races in Newton. Since there are 23 such candidates running for citywide seats with competition and also a Ballot Issue for voters to decide, we have divided our program into two Sunday events.
The FIRST SHOWCASE will be for At-large candidates for City Council seats and will be held on Sunday, October 8 at 1:30pm at the Angier Elementary School, moderated by Newton Tab Editor, Andy Levin. All 13 candidates have accepted the invitation to our forum.
The SECOND SHOWCASE AND BALLOT ISSUE DEBATE will be held on Sunday, October 22, at 1pm, also at the Angier Elementary School and will present to the voting public both Mayoral candidates, all eight School Committee aspirants in citywide competitive races, moderated by Marjorie Arons-Barron AND a formal BALLOT ISSUE DEBATE with proponents and opponents formally debating the merits and demerits of accepting or rejecting the Charter revision proposal on the ballot. The Debate will be moderated by John Katsulas, Director of the Boston College Fulton Debating Society.
