While Needham is busy preparing to purchase iPads for all Middle Schoolers, Newton schools are embroiled in a controversy over whether or not to the Newton South volleyball team should be allowed to wear shirts they purchased themselves, The TAB reports.
First-year athletic director Patricia Gonzalez decided to not allow the team to wear the jerseys that were approved last season after the team fund-raised for new uniforms. She believes that because the jerseys have the players’ last names on the back, they don’t represent what the school stands for.
This is completely unreasonable and the principal should fix it. If the school didn’t want to allow names on team uniforms, that decision should have been made last year before the kids raised funds and had the uniforms made. If the uniforms were approved, it’s unreasonable and unfair to un-approve them after they’ve already been purchased.
Would it change your mind to know that she then purchased the exact same uniforms, minus the names on the back, for the team to wear this year?
Yes, it would. Did that happen?
This seems like a really silly issue for a new AD to pick a fight over.
@anon
Who paid for the new uniforms?
